The Sun Ray Solution

Sun Ray ultra-thin clients are simple, unmanaged, low-power, low-cost devices that require no desktop administration. Unlike complex Microsoft Windows or embedded Linux-based thin clients and PCs, Sun Ray ultra-thin clients do not need to be upgraded when new applications are introduced or more computing power is required.

Sun Ray ultra-thin clients are also more secure than PC desktop systems because Sun Ray Server Software provides authentication and encryption between server and client as well as user session management. It not only enhances security but also helps reduce the complexity and administration of the IT environment.

Users have the option of using Smart Cards to access their stations, greatly increasing security while decreasing security administration. This architecture allows users to insert a Smart Card into any available Sun Ray ultra-thin client and instantaneously access an existing session. No logging off and on is required.

Sun Ray Architecture

The Sun Ray architecture consists of two components: The Sun Ray ultra-thin client and the Sun Ray Server Software.

The Sun Ray Server Software provides automatic load balancing, optimizing performance by distributing sessions across the servers in the group. Load balancing takes into account each server's load and capacity (number and speed of its CPUs) so that faster or less heavily loaded servers bear more of the load.

Application servers can be connected to the Sun Ray Server on the backend to allow users access to a large number of platforms on the front end using the same single secure login. Solaris™, Java™, Linux, UNIX®, Microsoft Windows, AS/400 are just some of the supported systems users can access.
